What does a typical day in your role look like?

I rarely have a typical day; every day is different — which is great. My role centres around working with the rest of the McCarthys team on our various projects so I have very mixed days! Depending on what we’ve got on, I could be attending client meetings, progressing tender bid submissions, or visiting sites.

How did you get started in the industry?

Before working in the commercial fit-out and refurbishment sector, I started my career working in the production industry. After nine years, I was ready for a career change and I took the leap, remortgaged and bought a small fit-out business! Hard work followed over 9.5 years, before we sadly had to close due to lost custom. Since then, I have put my passion into my role at McCarthys.

What’s one thing you would tell your younger self?

Don’t be afraid to fail, it helps you learn and become a bit more humble. You can’t do everything on your own, so if in doubt, ask for help. Treat others how you would like to be treated, and be passionate about what you do.

What’s great about working for McCarthys?

It’s truly down to the people. We have such a wide range of interesting individuals here, that it is a lovely place to be. The ability to have flexibility in my work week is also something I really appreciate as it’s key to enjoying a work/life balance.

What are some of your favourite things to do outside of work?

I’m a real family man, married with three kids — often becoming a Dad Taxi (but I love it really)! They are fast growing up, but we spend a lot of time together and I greatly look forward to holidays with them. Other than that I have a good group of friends – now countrywide — who I love to catch up with as frequently as I can.
