What does a typical day in your role look like?

It always starts with a cup of tea — made the correct way, teabag and hot water followed by milk. That sets me up nicely for the day. Then I’ll be either looking at a mixture of drawings; either collating, reviewing, registering, or issuing them. There could be some space planning or site drawing production involved in my day too, although it depends what we have on. It can vary hugely.

How did you get started in the industry?

Like many, almost by accident really. I completed a technician apprenticeship in which I’d used several different CAD packages and had gained experience on site facilities projects and office moves. This stood me in good stead when I applied for an assistant designer role.

What’s one thing you would tell your younger self?

I’d definitely tell myself not to worry too much about what other people think.

What’s great about working for McCarthys?

The sheer variety of the work keeps things interesting and engaging. But it’s also a huge positive to work alongside good people on quality projects.

What are some of your favourite things to do outside of work?

I enjoy socialising, music and following Coventry City Football Club.
